Around Dévillac, families who enjoy gentle walking are spoilt for choice. The Lot-et-Garonne is full of waymarked paths and short loops well suited to children. Here are five that our guests at Les Terrasses particularly like.
1
Short loops starting from Dévillac
From the house 5 to 8 km < 150 m of climb
Dévillac is surrounded by an excellent network of country lanes and forest tracks. On Openrunner you will find some fifteen routes passing through the village or close by, with IGN maps and free GPX tracks.
For a walk that works with children, choose a loop of no more than 5 to 8 km, with little climbing — under 150 m — and a route that alternates open fields with woodland, which is very welcome in summer for the shade. The GPS tracks download straight to your phone.

Villeréal – the royal bastide circuit
10 min 9.6 km · about 3 hr 110 m of climb
A classic, starting from the fine bastide of Villeréal. You set off from the place de la Libération, under the magnificent medieval market hall (GPS: 44.637167, 0.743621). The path alternates quiet country roads, grassy tracks and good views over the plum orchards, passing the church at Parisot.
Why it suits families: Nothing technical, clear and regular yellow waymarking, easy to cut short — and a good reward at the end: an ice cream or a snack under the arcades on the square.

Monflanquin – panoramic views over the valleys
15 min 7.9 km (a shorter version is possible) about 160 m of climb
One of the finest bastides in the south-west, with excellent routes and wide views. The official circuit runs for a while alongside the river Lède and gives pretty views over the surrounding valleys.
The family version we suggest: Walk up gently to the place des Arcades, follow the first few kilometres — the most panoramic — then turn back or cut across on a small road, depending on the energy of the day.

Gavaudun – a walk in the woods
15 min 2.6 to 6 km Shaded · cool in summer
Several short waymarked loops wind through a fine forest of oak and sweet chestnut, passing near the rocks and the Lède valley. The Laurenque themed walk — only 2.6 km and 105 m of climb — is particularly good, as are the short woodland variants.
What children like: Cool even in summer, and a real sense of adventure — watching wildlife, quiet picnic stops. Route sheets are available from the Cœur de Bastides tourist office.

Lacapelle-Biron – through the woods
20 min 7–8 km suggested Chestnut & oak
A pleasant route through sweet chestnut, oak and hornbeam, in a landscape that already feels like the Périgord next door: ochre stone walls, a peaceful air. The full circuit is about 12 km, but for a family outing the first sections are more than enough.
Good when it is hot: Little climbing on the first stretch, plenty of shade and some modest but charming heritage. A restful, cooling walk.

Practical tips for family walks from Les Terrasses
- Prepare your route: Download the GPX files from Visorando or tourisme-lotetgaronne.com before you set off. The mobile signal can be temperamental in the valleys.
- Sensible timing: In summer, set off early and be back for lunch. The heated pool at Les Terrasses is waiting for the afternoon.
- A plan B for tired legs: All these routes can be cut short easily. Better to finish in good spirits than to trudge the last few kilometres.
- Printed route sheets: Call in at the Cœur de Bastides tourist office, in Villeréal or Monflanquin. Free route sheets are usually available over the counter.
- Travel light: Comfortable shoes, a hat, plenty of water and something to eat. And leave the plum trees alone until the fruit is ripe.
