Food Guide · Good Tables

One of the pleasures of a stay at Les Terrasses is trying a different Périgord table each evening. Our guests come back with places to recommend — here is their selection, village by village.

In Villeréal itself

A step from the medieval market hall

Nord Sud ★ 4.8 / 5 · around 400 reviews

Probably the best-loved table in the village. Refined cooking, a warm welcome and genuine advice on what to order: a safe bet, a step from the medieval hall.

L’Hippocampe ★ 5 / 5 · around 100 reviews

The highest-rated restaurant in Villeréal. Quieter and less known, it wins people over with honest surf-and-turf cooking and an intimate setting in a quiet lane. Run by a couple who care — booking essential.

La Table de l’Europe ★ 4.8 / 5 · around 225 reviews

Careful French cooking in a traditional setting. An elegant address in the middle of the village, which rounds out this leading trio nicely.

In Monflanquin (15 min)

Under the arcades of the finest bastide in the Haut-Agenais

L’Effet Maison

Under the arcades of the central square, French cooking open to flavours from further afield, made only with fresh produce sourced locally. The menu changes every three weeks with the seasons — much liked by our guests.

Le Bistrot du Prince Noir ★ 360+ reviews

The liveliest table in the village, ideal for a relaxed meal with family or friends. Grills, homemade burgers, fish and chips and vegetarian options, all on a terrace facing the bastide. Open at lunchtime and in the evening (closed Wednesdays and Sundays, depending on the season).

La Bastide des Oliviers

Seasonal bistro cooking in an elegant hotel setting on the edge of the village. A good choice for a romantic dinner or a long lunch.

La Marmaille

The obvious choice for families with children: bar, restaurant and playroom under one roof. Relaxed, traditional cooking at fair prices.

Worth knowing

Tables in Villeréal and Monflanquin fill up quickly in July and August: book the day before, especially on Saturday evening after the market.

A little further afield

For an evening out

L’Auberge de Gavaudun 10 km from Monflanquin

Tucked at the foot of the medieval fortress, generous regional cooking in an exceptional setting. Somewhere that combines a visit with a good meal.

La Dame du Lac Lac de Coulon · Monflanquin

A wide terrace looking over the lake and honest seasonal cooking — perfect for a summer lunch almost on the grass.

A few practical tips

  • Always book in July and August: the best tables are full by Wednesday for the weekend.
  • The Saturday morning market in Villeréal is itself worth the trip: farmhouse cheeses, foie gras, Duras wines and seasonal fruit.
  • The Villeréal tourist office keeps an up-to-date list of which restaurants are open when — ask for it on arrival.
